*France’s Student Protests Spiral Into Violence* Thousands have been arrested as student protests over overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and deteriorating school conditions spread across France. Schools have been blockaded, fires set and police confronted in several cities. In Marseille, teachers were splashed with gasoline during an incident involving a student attempting to throw fuel into a burning trash bin. France wanted education reform. It got a nationwide crisis instead.
