US Deploying 10,000 Additional Troops and Third Aircraft Carrier to Middle East The United States is sending the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East, two US officials confirmed to Fox News. The deployment will bring approximately 10,000 additional American sailors and Marines to the region, with the ships expected to arrive by the end of November. The Theodore Roosevelt will become the third US aircraft carrier in the Middle East, joining the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington. The carrier departed San Diego on Sunday, while the Marines deployed Monday aboard the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. The military buildup comes as President Trump reportedly considers expanding strikes against Iran following the November midterm elections.
