CENTCOM Rejects Iran’s Claim of Full Control Over Strait of Hormuz U.S. Central Command publicly rejected an Iranian military commander’s claim that Iran now exercises full control over the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf, labeling the claim “FALSE.” CENTCOM said U.S. forces drove Iranian forces out and argued that Tehran does not control the strategic waterway, pointing to thousands of commercial vessels that have passed through independently in recent months. Iranian commander Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari had claimed earlier today that Iranian forces exercise full control over the strait and surrounding waters.
