President Donald Trump is facing renewed scrutiny over his account of his actions after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks after claiming that two firefighters lifted him to safety from a building near Ground Zero. Trump made the claim Tuesday during a 9/11 memorial event, saying he had gone to Lower Manhattan with a construction crew shortly after the attacks and that firefighters carried him away because a nearby building appeared ready to collapse. But there is no evidence supporting the account, and Trump's description conflicts with an earlier version of his story. The New York Times reported that Trump said in a 2016 speech that he went to the area “a couple of days after” the towers fell.
