NEW: Apple customers in the U.S. will soon be able to lease an iPhone for up to two years starting at $17.99 per month, the company announced Tuesday. The program, called Apple Upgrade, is a partnership with buy-now-pay-later provider Klarna and will be available at Apple's retail stores and online. After a soft credit check, customers can lease an iPhone or Apple Watch for 12 or 24 months, or a Mac or iPad for 24 or 36 months, with no security deposit required. At the end of the term, customers can upgrade to a new device, buy their current one outright, or return it and walk away. The program replaces Apple's previous iPhone Upgrade Program and comes as the company looks to smooth demand ahead of its Thursday earnings report.
