A bronze statue honoring Lt. Col. Yoni Netanyahu has been unveiled at Entebbe Airport's historic old terminal, marking 50 years since the 1976 hostage rescue operation in which he was killed. Uganda's military chief, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, said the memorial honors Netanyahu's courage and reflects the growing security partnership between Uganda and Israel, while distancing modern Uganda from Idi Amin's regime, which supported the terrorists behind the Air France hijacking. The mission successfully rescued the hostages and was later renamed Operation Yonatan in Netanyahu's honor.
