New York has approved the first cholov Yisroel infant formula for purchase through the federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, following a three-year effort by the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty. The change will allow low-income Orthodox Jewish families who observe the stricter kosher dairy standard to use WIC benefits to purchase qualifying formula, addressing a longstanding gap in the program. Met Council CEO David Greenfield said the approval is expected to benefit tens of thousands of families across New York's Orthodox communities. The formula is expected to be added to the state's approved WIC list later this month.
