A recent speech attributed to Borough Park Rabbi Rav Yitzchak Zalman Gips has gone viral after he criticized Rabbi Eli Stefansky’s Daf Yomi shiurim as “cartoons” and urged listeners to seek other shiurim. The Sept. 1 speech has sparked a strong online reaction. Chareidi media commentator Yosef Rapaport sharply defended Stefansky, saying he is not even a follower of Stefansky but that the rabbi should repent for insulting a Torah scholar. Rapaport also wrote that “Rabbi Stefansky does Ba’al Shem work,” citing Torah sources.
