Update: New details are emerging about United Airlines pilot Ibrahim R. Mossallam, whose past comments about the Oct. 7 Hamas attack have drawn renewed scrutiny. Israeli journalist Libby Blanca Alon reported Tuesday that two United pilots who were deadheading on a flight operated by Mossallam reportedly gave up their first-class seats and spent the entire flight in the cockpit because they did not trust him. According to sources familiar with the incident cited by Alon, the pilots wanted to keep a close eye on Mossallam throughout the flight. The sources also reportedly said United wanted to terminate Mossallam's employment, but the pilots' union blocked the move.
