An 18-year-old Chabad yeshiva student was threatened with a knife and punched while conducting Jewish outreach activities in a Melbourne suburb last week, according to police and the local Jewish community. Yitzi Loewenthal, a student at Yeshiva Gedola Melbourne, was walking in the Bentleigh neighborhood Friday afternoon as part of Chabad's weekly outreach program, in which students visit homes and businesses to offer Jewish men the opportunity to don tefillin and distribute Shabbat candles and challah ahead of the Sabbath.
