A Maine man is accused of firing a rifle toward Camp Modin, a Jewish summer camp in Belgrade, Maine on Aug. 7, sending hundreds of campers and staff into lockdown. Court documents say Nathan Hewett, 36, confronted security over a tractor, then fired multiple rounds from neighboring property while appearing intoxicated; shell casings suggested some shots were aimed at the basketball courts. No one was injured. Police cited suspected antisemitic bias. Hewett was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening, terrorizing, and discharging a firearm near a dwelling. He was later released on bail with a stay-away order; the camp is seeking a protection order after staff said he continued to harass them.
