The TSA is bringing back, on a limited basis, an airport perk largely lost after 9/11: allowing some non-ticketed visitors into secure gate areas. The new Gateside by TSA PreCheck program lets eligible visitors accompany family members, greet arriving passengers or visit shops and restaurants beyond security. Visitors must have TSA PreCheck or another eligible trusted-traveler status, apply one to three days ahead and pass TSA screening. The pilot is available at 13 airports: AZA Phoenix-Mesa Gateway; CMH Columbus; DFW Dallas Fort Worth; DTW Detroit; ICT Wichita; IND Indianapolis; LAS Las Vegas; LAX Los Angeles; LIT Little Rock; OKC Oklahoma City; OMA Omaha; SAN San Diego; and SLC Salt Lake City. TSA says airports may limit passes during busy periods. The program is free.
