🏠 U.S. MORTGAGE RATES CLIMB TO 7.4%, HIGHEST SINCE NOVEMBER 2023: The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose to 7.40% this week from 7.28%, according to Freddie Mac, its highest level since November 2023 and the seventh straight weekly increase. Redfin says 21.1% of U.S. sellers cut their asking price in the four weeks ending Sept. 20, the highest share for that time of year in its data, which goes back to 2022. Nearly half of buyers are receiving seller concessions such as closing-cost help or rate buydowns, Redfin says, as higher borrowing costs weigh on demand and shift leverage toward buyers.
