VENEZUELA NEARS DEAL TO MOVE $4 BILLION IN GOLD TO NEW YORK: The Financial Times reports that Venezuela’s government and opposition are close to an agreement to transfer roughly $4 billion in central bank gold from the Bank of England to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The U.S.-backed deal would give interim leader Delcy Rodríguez’s government legal control of the reserves while preventing their immediate sale, allowing the gold instead to be used as collateral for financing. The agreement could resolve a seven-year dispute over the assets but has not yet been finalized.
