Israel says the British Consulate General in East Jerusalem has ceased functioning as a consulate, with its signage removed and the consul-general among 20 British diplomats leaving Israel. Up to seven diplomats will remain with sharply limited responsibilities, while Britain says the building itself will stay open under the new name “UK Mission, Jerusalem.” Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Israel has also completed measures announced September 8, including removing British representatives from the Gaza coordination center in Kiryat Gat, ending British training of Palestinian Authority forces in Judea and Samaria, and barring 12 British officials and others from entering Israel. The steps followed British sanctions and restrictions targeting Israel, including measures against Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria and defense export licenses.
