HACKER ATTEMPTS TO BREACH U.S. FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION SYSTEMS – A hacker is reportedly attempting to breach the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) computer systems, forcing the agency to temporarily shut down its public-facing online services, according to an internal email obtained by Reuters on Tuesday. The FEC confirmed that its electronic filing system has been offline since approximately 10 p.m. Monday and that IT staff are working to restore service. The FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have not yet commented. There is no confirmation that hackers successfully accessed the systems. The incident comes just one week before the November 3 U.S. midterm elections.
