A man involved in a motor vehicle crash in Toms River allegedly refused medical assistance from Orthodox Jewish first responders, telling them, “I don’t want your kind touching me,” according to Hatzolah volunteer Booky Kaluszyner. Kaluszyner said the patient repeatedly demanded “real 911” despite the arrival of Orthodox volunteers responding with local emergency services. He added that the paramedics who eventually arrived were also Hasidic Jews, and the nurse assigned to the patient at the hospital was Orthodox as well. In a follow-up post, Kaluszyner clarified that his original message was intended to highlight how prejudice can lead people to refuse medical care, not to discredit Toms River’s emergency services.
