IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir pledged Tuesday that haredi men joining the military would be able to maintain their religious identity and way of life. Speaking during a visit to a haredi hesder yeshiva in Gan Yavne, Zamir said expanding military recruitment is a security necessity but stressed that the army must provide appropriate conditions for religious soldiers. “The IDF does not seek to change your identity. Our goal is for you to enter the army haredi and leave the army haredi,” Zamir told students, calling it a personal commitment.
