Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a harsh warning Tuesday, saying Israel would evacuate Gaza City and move its roughly 1 million residents south if Hamas captures another Israeli soldier or civilian. Speaking at a state memorial ceremony for soldiers killed in the 1973 Yom Kippur War at Mount Herzl, Katz said the warning was based on what he described as intelligence indicating that Hamas is planning additional attempts to abduct Israelis. The Times of Israel reported that Katz referred to “various intentions and intelligence” but did not provide details about the information.
