Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism after giving a ceremonial pen used to sign two executive orders marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11 to his chief counsel, Ramzi Kassem, who previously represented an al-Qaida operative. Mamdani signed the orders at City Hall, establishing Sept. 11 as a citywide Day of Remembrance and Service and strengthening emergency preparedness. He then asked NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch to pass the pen to Kassem, according to The New York Post.
