🏥🇮🇱 ISRAELI INNOVATION HELPS PATIENTS AVOID AMPUTATION: A small clinical pilot at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center found that a biodegradable antibiotic gel developed by Israeli biotech company GentaGel helped 8 of 10 diabetic patients with severe infected foot ulcers and bone infections avoid amputation, with wound closure and bone regrowth reported. The gel delivers antibiotics directly to the infection site for up to 60 days, maintaining high local concentrations while limiting exposure elsewhere in the body. The results are preliminary, with further studies planned in Israel and the U.S. as the company pursues an FDA regulatory pathway.
