Iran's Foreign Ministry says its memorandum of understanding with the United States contained no "60-day deadline," but rather envisioned a 60-day, potentially extendable period for discussions on sanctions relief and the nuclear issue. "There is no such thing as a 60-day deadline in the text of the MoU, and the Islamic Republic of Iran never formulates its policies under pressure, ultimatums or time constraints," ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Monday. He said talks never began because Washington committed "gross and widespread violations" of the June 18 agreement within weeks of it being signed, adding that as a result, "the 60-day discussion is no longer relevant."
