New York residents will begin receiving electricity rebate checks next week under a $1 billion state program aimed at helping households offset rising energy costs. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that payments will begin Sept. 21 and continue through December, reaching about 8.2 million eligible households. Rebates will range from $100 to $200, depending on income and filing status. Joint filers with incomes below $150,000 will receive the maximum $200 payment. To qualify, residents must have filed a 2024 New York state income tax return on time, been full-time state residents in 2024, met the income requirements and not been claimed as a dependent.
