⚖️ META ORDERED TO PAY $25 BILLION IN NEW MEXICO CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA CASE: A New Mexico judge on Wednesday ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to pay $25 billion after a jury found in September that the company violated state consumer protection laws more than 43 million times. The state alleged Meta misled users about data privacy and content moderation. The case stems from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, in which data from about 87 million Facebook profiles was harvested and used for targeted political ads. The state had sought $35 billion to $40 billion, and Meta argued for no more than $3.4 billion. Attorney General Raúl Torrez said the money will go to a state education fund. Meta plans to appeal.
