REPORT: Iran has adopted new tactics to intensify attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and plans to expand operations into the Gulf of Oman, according to two senior Iranian officials who spoke to Reuters. The officials said ships have already been targeted off Qatar and the UAE, and that the strategy aims to keep oil prices high and pressure Washington ahead of the Nov. 3 U.S. midterms. At least five incidents involving tankers and other commercial vessels were reported in the past 48 hours, and the U.S. Navy-led Joint Maritime Information Centre rated the threat "severe."
