🧳 NEW JERSEY BILL TARGETS FAULTY AIRPORT BAGGAGE SCALES: A New Jersey Assembly committee has advanced legislation requiring annual inspections of baggage scales at certain airports, with results made public within 30 days. The bill (A5507), sponsored by Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, passed the Assembly Transportation Committee 15–0 and now heads to the Appropriations Committee. State inspection records show 105 of 384 scales (27%) at Newark Liberty failed in October 2023, including 86 with readings that could lead to unfair overweight baggage fees, according to NJ Spotlight. One scale was still off by as much as 35 pounds after repairs. Newark has not been inspected since, while JFK and LaGuardia are inspected annually.
