A Philadelphia teacher who was active in racial justice and pro-Palestinian organizing has admitted that she lied for years about her racial and family background, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Hannah Gann, a veteran Philadelphia School District educator, had at times portrayed herself as both Black and Palestinian and became a visible member of the Racial Justice Organizing Committee and Philly Educators for Palestine. According to the Inquirer, Gann is white and Jewish. The activist groups said they confronted her about her background and that, after about an hour of questioning, she admitted she had lied. They said they asked her to publicly acknowledge that she was a white woman of Jewish heritage from an Israeli settler family.
