Walgreens is reportedly continuing to close stores across the U.S., including locations in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington, D.C., though the pace of closures has slowed significantly. Since being acquired by Sycamore Partners in August 2025, the pharmacy chain has reduced its planned shutdowns, with its U.S. footprint shrinking from about 8,500 to 8,000 stores. Walgreens now reportedly expects to close fewer than 100 stores in 2026, down from earlier projections of as many as 700.
