The U.S. State Department has notified Congress of a proposed transfer of Turkish-held, U.S.-made weapons to Ukraine, according to documents published in the Congressional Record on Aug. 6. The package includes 70 M39 ATACMS ballistic missiles, 12 M270 MLRS launchers, 2,524 M26 DPICM cluster rockets, and 47,000 M509A1 203mm DPICM artillery shells. The State Department said the transfer is consistent with U.S. security assistance objectives, and Turkey said it is seeking to reduce its stock of older weapons to redirect funds toward modernizing its remaining systems. Deliveries are expected to begin once the mandatory 15-day congressional review period concludes.
