Florida could soon take another step toward a future of flying taxis, with Gov. Ron DeSantis announcing that electric aircraft capable of taking off and landing vertically will begin testing at a state transportation facility in Polk County by the end of the year. The aircraft, known as eVTOLs, will be tested at SunTrax, an approximately 775-acre transportation research facility along the Interstate 4 corridor. The site includes the nation’s first dedicated aerial test track for advanced air mobility, according to the governor’s office.
