Mayor Zohran Mamdani marked the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre Wednesday by acknowledging the Israelis killed and abducted in the attack, but used much of his statement to accuse Israel of war crimes and blame the United States for supporting them. Mamdani said Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 people on Oct. 7, calling the attack “horrific.” But he immediately shifted his focus to Israel’s response, saying the suffering “did not begin nor end that day.”
