Israeli startup Hemispheric has emerged from stealth with $52 million in funding to develop Descartes, an Al-powered "brain test" designed to objectively measure brain function and help diagnose conditions like PTSD, Alzheimer's, depression, and Parkinson's. The six-billion-parameter model was trained on more than 250,000 hours of EEG and behavioral data from over 100,000 participants. Patients wear a lightweight EEG headset for a 15-minute assessment, which the Al analyzes to provide objective insights for diagnosis and treatment. Founded by computational neuroscientist Dr. Hagai Lalazar and Gidi Littwin — a RealFace co-founder whose work was later folded into Apple's Face ID - the company aims to make brain testing as routine as a blood test and plans to pursue FDA approval starting with a PTSD-focused product.
