Vice President JD Vance defended special envoy Steve Witkoff after the diplomat faced backlash on Wednesday for calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a "humanitarian" after he released 74-year-old U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard, who had been imprisoned in Russia for four years. "I care much less about what Steve said than about the fact that he is bringing an American hostage home to his family," Vance said. "We should all be celebrating that, not be complaining about what Steve Witkoff said in order to get it done."
