Jon Kyl, the longtime Arizona Republican who served nearly three decades in Congress and was a prominent supporter of Israel, has died at 84. Kyl served in the U.S. House from 1987 to 1995 and in the Senate from 1995 to 2013. He briefly returned to the Senate in 2018 after then-Gov. Doug Ducey appointed him to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. John McCain. Kyl's record on Israel included one of his most significant legislative efforts: the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which he introduced with Sen. Bob Dole. The legislation recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and called for the U.S. Embassy to be moved there from Tel Aviv.
