OREGON SCHOOL SHOOTER IDENTIFIED: The 16-year-old who carried out Thursday’s deadly attack at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, has been identified by NBC News as John J. Griffin II. Authorities say he shot through locked doors to enter the school, killing three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and a teacher, while critically wounding a 7-year-old student and another teacher. A community member pursued Griffin inside and fatally shot him; reports indicate the person may have been a student’s parent, though authorities have not publicly identified the individual. NBC News reports the gun had been purchased by Griffin’s mother around his birthday in August.
