According to CBS, citing two Israeli sources, Israel was prepared to shoot down a Flydubai passenger aircraft carrying more than 150 Israelis if it had been determined that the plane had been hijacked and was continuing toward Israel. Under the procedure, fighter jets would first have been expected to determine what was happening in the cockpit and among the passengers and attempt to establish contact. If the aircraft was confirmed to have been hijacked and continued approaching Israel without responding, Netanyahu could have authorized the fighter jets to shoot it down to prevent a mass-casualty attack.
