The Sefer Torah commemorates members of the November 1979 class of Golani's reconnaissance unit who were killed over the years, including Maj. Goni Harnik, Hy"d, the unit's commander who was killed during the battle for the Beaufort. In an emotional closing of a circle, the Sefer Torah was brought to the top of the Beaufort, where soldiers gathered and read from it at the site where their predecessors had fought decades earlier.
