AFTER NEARLY 78 YEARS, A LONG-LOST GRAVE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED: Shlomo Chaimson, 18, was killed in 1948 trying to escape a British detention camp in Cyprus and reach Israel. Born in Romania, he lost his father during WWII and later attempted to reach Eretz Yisrael, but hisnship was intercepted. In Cyprus, he joined Shurot HaMeginim, which operated under the Haganah and trained detainees for military service. Though never enlisted in the IDF, Israel officially recognizes him among its fallen. After learning that his daughter Miriam had been born in Israel, he attempted to escape with eight others and was shot dead. He was buried anonymously in Cyprus, and in 1970 his unidentified remains were transferred to Chaifa. After years of investigation, the IDF has now identified his grave. Miriam, now living in Brazil along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, has finally learned where her father rests. Join the JustMyIsrael Status!
