*Boogie Boarder Has Close Encounter With Great White Shark Off Orange County Coast* A Southern California boogie boarder had an incredibly close call after a large great white shark was spotted just offshore in Newport Beach. Video of the encounter shows the shark surfacing near the boogie boarder before swimming away without making contact, leaving beachgoers stunned. Marine experts say juvenile and adult great white sharks are increasingly common along the Southern California coastline, especially during the summer months, as they feed in nearshore waters. Despite the alarming sight, unprovoked shark attacks remain extremely rare, and sharks typically avoid humans. Officials continue to encourage beachgoers to remain aware of their surroundings and follow any advisories issued by lifeguards.
