LA County Agrees To Speed Up Concealed Carry Gun Permits The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has agreed to speed up the processing of concealed carry gun permits as part of a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice. Federal officials had accused the department of excessive delays, with some applicants reportedly waiting more than two years for an interview. Between January 2024 and March 2025, LASD received 3,982 new applications but approved just two during that period, according to the federal complaint. LASD says it has since dramatically improved processing and eliminated its backlog. Under the settlement, the department must continue meeting California's required processing deadlines.
