Waymo Driverless Cars Begin Taking Riders Onto L.A. Freeways Driverless cars are no longer limited to local streets in Los Angeles. Waymo has begun offering freeway trips to select riders, following extensive testing on Southern California freeways. The service is still being rolled out, meaning not every Waymo rider has freeway access yet. Riders who don't currently have access can join Waymo's freeway interest list through the Waymo app and will be notified when the feature becomes available to them. Once enabled, Waymo can automatically route a ride onto the freeway when it determines that doing so will make the trip meaningfully faster. Waymo has specifically cited a Downtown Los Angeles-to-Culver City trip using the 10 Freeway as an example of the new service.
