*Official Report: Faulty Edison Transmission Tower Determined To Be Cause Of Eaton Fire* A newly released investigation by the Los Angeles County Fire Department has concluded that the devastating 2025 Eaton Fire was caused by electrical arcing from an idle Southern California Edison transmission tower in Eaton Canyon. Investigators found that sparks from the tower ignited dry vegetation during extreme Santa Ana wind conditions, leading to one of the deadliest wildfires in Los Angeles County history. The Eaton Fire claimed 19 lives, destroyed more than 9,400 homes and buildings, and burned nearly 14,000 acres across Altadena and surrounding communities. Southern California Edison says it is reviewing the report and continues to work with investigators and support recovery efforts, while legal proceedings related to the fire continue.
