Bogus L.A. Mayoral Poll Fooled Social Media — And Mayor Bass A poll showing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass with a nearly 12-point lead over Councilmember Nithya Raman in the November mayoral runoff has turned out to be completely fake. The supposed survey was released by a group calling itself “Silver Oak Research,” which has now acknowledged that no actual poll was conducted. The group described the stunt as a “social experiment” designed to see how quickly fabricated polling could spread online. Perhaps most remarkably, Bass herself shared the favorable numbers on social media before later deleting the post.
