*NEW SQUARE:* At approximately 1:25 a.m., a driver was found asleep behind the wheel for an extended period near the entrance to New Square, prompting a response from a Rockland County Sheriff's deputy. Upon checking on the driver, the deputy observed suspicious behavior and suspected possible intoxication. As the deputy began conducting sobriety tests, the driver suddenly fled on foot and resisted arrest. The deputy immediately requested backup, bringing additional Rockland County Sheriff's units, Ramapo Police, and New York State Police to the scene. Several New Square residents also assisted the deputy in apprehending the suspect.
