A Qantas Airbus A380 flew from Sydney to Dallas and back with a maintenance work light accidentally left inside its wing. The 33-centimeter lamp was discovered after the aircraft returned to Sydney, after carrying nearly 1,000 passengers. In a separate 2023 incident, another Qantas A380 flew 34 flights with a 1.25-meter nylon tool lodged inside one of its engines before it was discovered. Neither incident caused damage, but Qantas has since strengthened its maintenance tool-control procedures.
