American Airlines Faces Duplicate Callsign Incidents Two American Eagle CRJ-700s were simultaneously airborne as AA5083 on August 12, using the exact same ATC callsign, “Bluestreak 5083.” The aircraft were operated by PSA Airlines, with one flying Philadelphia–Providence and another operating the return flight. The two CRJs overlapped in the air for approximately 26 minutes before controllers identified the duplicate callsign. Just two days later, two American 737-800s faced a similar situation as AA2482 near Phoenix. The FAA is investigating the 737 incident; in both cases, controllers maintained separation and no injuries were reported.
