TRAGEDY 38,000 FEET OVER THE ATLANTIC A routine American Airlines flight from Miami to Rome turned into a desperate fight for a passenger’s life Thursday morning. As Flight AA52, a Boeing 777-200ER, approached Rome, a male passenger suffered a critical medical emergency. Five doctors on board rushed to help, desperately attempting to resuscitate him as the crew declared an emergency and squawked 7700. The aircraft was given priority and landed safely at Rome Fiumicino, where emergency medical crews were waiting on the runway. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the five doctors and the emergency teams on the ground, the passenger tragically could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
