Plane-Spotting Warning at Skiathos Beach, Greece Two tourists were injured this month while watching planes take off near Skiathos Airport in Greece, where the runway is famously close to the beach and public road. One woman suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to the Greek mainland, while another suffered a serious arm fracture after being knocked over by jet blast. The beach is a popular plane-spotting location, but jet blast from departing aircraft can be extremely powerful and dangerous, even from outside the airport. Warning signs and barriers are in place, but authorities are investigating the incidents as tourists continue getting dangerously close to departing aircraft.
