✈️ Antonov An-124 Still Stranded in Toronto A Canadian federal judge has rejected Volga-Dnepr Airlines’ latest legal challenge seeking relief from sanctions, meaning its massive An-124 remains stuck at Toronto Pearson Airport. The aircraft, RA-82078, arrived in Toronto on February 27, 2022, carrying COVID-19 tests from China. It was unable to depart after Canada closed its airspace to Russian-registered aircraft. Canada officially seized the aircraft in June 2023. Volga-Dnepr argued for sanctions relief, but the government said the airline had helped Russia bypass Canadian and allied sanctions. The judge ruled that Volga-Dnepr had not shown the decision was unreasonable or procedurally unfair. The 31-year-old An-124 has become a permanent fixture at YYZ, even appearing on Google Maps. Volga-Dnepr has nine An-124s in its fleet, with only three currently active; three more are stranded at Leipzig/Halle in Germany.
