🇳🇿🇦🇶🇺🇸USAF C-17 TURNS BACK FROM ANTARCTICA AFTER RUSSIAN MISSILE WARNING A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, call sign ICE28, departed Christchurch, New Zealand, around 9:00 AM Tuesday for McMurdo Station, Antarctica, as part of Operation Deep Freeze. The aircraft turned back over the Southern Ocean after New Zealand authorities issued a NOTAM warning of potentially hazardous activity linked to a planned Russian missile launch within New Zealand’s Oceanic Flight Information Region. ICE28 safely landed back at Christchurch at 11:29 AM, after about 2½ hours airborne. The NOTAM did not close the airspace, but operators were warned of the potential hazard and the crew chose to return to Christchurch. New Zealand officials are now seeking further information from Russia about the launch.
